What the Media is saying
PM plans to auction his cast for charity
By MARTIN KAY - The Dominion Post | Thursday, 29 January 2009
Prime Minister John Key will auction the cast on his broken right arm to raise money for a charity for the blind in the Solomon Islands.
Mr Key told members of the Regional Assistance Mission to the Solomons yesterday that he would put the cast, signed by Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, up for sale on Trade Me.
He would ask wife Bronagh to make a bid of "$1000 bucks or so" to kickstart the auction.
Mr Key broke his arm when he fell leaving a stage at a Chinese New Year function in Auckland this month.
The cast comes off in two weeks and has been signed by other leaders as well as Mr Rudd. Mr Key said it was suggested he should sell it to raise money for a local charity by the Kiwi police contingent in the Solomons.
The broken arm has sparked headlines around the world, including one in a British newspaper that read: "NZ Prime Minister gets plastered."

John Key comes to town
Today John Keys was in town for 4 hours. I got to go to an afternoon tea function and meet him. Was a reasonably unmomentus occasion but I did leave an enduring mark.
John Keys has a broken arm and yesterday Kevin Rudd signed the cast. When the cast comes off in 2 weeks Keys is going to auction it on Trade Me with proceeds going to a Solomon Island charity. I decided to be cheeky and ask him if I could sign it if I promised to place a bid.......so look out for it on trade me. John Keys cast wtih Kevin Rudd and my signature on it. Go on ..place a bid....it will go to a good cause here in the Solomons

Sarah hit Honiara
In flight entertainment on Solomon Airlines!!!!!
Girls, Ipods and MP3's just a hanging out!!
We are very lucky to have a special visitor come back from NZ with us. Sarah has come to stay for 4 1/2 weeks to help me out by looking after the kids while Carl is back in PNG.
The kids are thrilled to have a "big sister" to hang out with and I am even more thrilled to have some company and help at home. She is fabulous with the kids and a true Alderdice girl who can turn her hand to anything.
If is a real blessing to have her here with us.

Christmas Day

Fun at the Farm
Well we have just returned from our Christmas break in NZ and Australia.
Was great to catch up with many good friends and for the kids to reconnect with family.
A bout of colds and flus curbed some of our planned activities but we still managed to enjoy the beach at the Mount, some time in Auckland and Taupo seeing the sights, and a fabulous trip to Lake Tarawera hot water beach by chopper. We also spent some fun time at Brent and Becs life style block, caught a few movies, went to the races, and had a couple of great night out at concerts in Brisbane. Was great to relax as a family with family and friends before what is sure to be another busy year.
We are now back in Honiara with an extra family member. Sarah Alderdice has joined us for a month and is doing a great job looking after the kids and helping me out as Carl is now back in PNG.
